Surf-Jazz Meets Rock n’ Roll
With influences as diverse as Phish, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Nat King Cole, John Paris is building a new sound out of Charleston, combining some of the best elements from rock, psychedelia, classical, and jazz to the rhythm of the city’s beachy surf vibe.
Following years of classical training as a child, John Paris took to drums in middle school and later to guitar, ultimately forming bands at Brown University while diving head-first into jazz and composition studies. After school, he spent years recording and performing in New York, Nashville, and Berlin, and credits much of his “folk” sound to Berlin’s international street music scene.
Now in Charleston, SC, John Paris is building a fan base playing local favorites, including Chico Feo, Dispensary, Palmetto Brewery, Bounty Bar, Bay Street Biergarten, among others.
